The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard is very deep purple-black in colour with an earthy, meaty, broody nose with notes of mocha over baked plums and crème de cassis plus wafts of spice box and mincemeat. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, rich and earthy with great vibrancy on the finish.

About Dalle Valle

Dalla Valle was originally purchased by Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle in 1982. Originally planted with Zinfandel, they made the decision after only the first harvest to sell that parcel and purchase a larger property adjacent. The wines improved throughout the late 80s and early 90s as the vineyard matured, however, tragedy hit the family and in 1995 Gustav Dalla Valle died. This left Naoko to take the helm, originally from Japan, Naoko continued their legacy to improve the wines in the coming years. Their only daughter Maya, showed an early interest in the wine industry and Naoko encouraged her to study and learn. She studied at both Cornell as well as Bordeaux University. She also gained valuable experience at Bodega Rolland, Ornellaia, Petrus and Chateau Lafleur. In 2017 she returned to the family winery to help her mother and continue the Dalla Valle legacy. The vineyard was originally planted with Sangiovese, due to Gustav's Italian heritage, however Tony Soter, an early consultant suggested the switch to Cabernet Sauvignon, which given the diverse soil composition would perform better. Dalla Valle wines are Cabernet-based, fully estate-grown and they practice sustainable farming practices. Dalla Valle has a strong technical team, along with Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle, they have Andy Erickson (Screaming Eagle, Spottswood) as chief winemaker and Michel Rolland as blending consultant. Maya is looking to take the reigns in the following years and has the vision of pushing the Dalla Valle to new heights. The word sense of place or terroir is used too frequently but the wines of Dalla Valle can easily use this term along with the fact they are clearly some of the highest quality wines produced in California.
