Levantine Hill is one of the most ambitious estates in Australian wine. Established in 2009 by the Jreissati family, the property sits on the Coldstream Golden Mile in the heart of the Yarra Valley — two elevated vineyards on steep clay loam slopes, peaking at 225 metres above sea level, with vines dating back to the 1990s and family blocks planted from 2009 onwards. The name honours the family's Lebanese heritage: founder Elias Jreissati was born in the Bekaa Valley, one of the ancient world's great wine-growing regions. When experts said the terrain was too steep and the rocky outcrops too dense to plant, Jreissati saw potential — and drilled through the stone to prove it.

The wines are crafted by Paul Bridgeman, a Yarra Valley local with over 25 vintages in the region. Previously winemaker at the iconic Yarra Yering and a former collaborator at Domaine Jean-Louis Chave in the Rhône, Bridgeman brings a distinctly European hand to the Yarra — wines of cool-climate elegance, precision and restraint. Fruit is handpicked and hand-sorted, often in batches as small as 50 kilograms, then fermented and matured in French oak.

From the first vintage in 2012, Levantine Hill earned recognition quickly — a five-red-star rating from James Halliday and praise from critics for its purity of fruit and sense of place. The Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have become benchmarks for the region.

Today, Levantine Hill is ranked the second-finest winery in Australia by The Real Review — ahead of Penfolds.
