Wines by Alexander, a Quebec wine agency, is proud to present Mount Mary.
Mount Mary is one of the most revered names in Australian wine. Established in 1971 by Dr. John and Marli Middleton, it was among the first to replant vines in the Yarra Valley, helping spark the region’s modern revival. Inspired by the wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, the Middletons chose a gentle north-facing slope near Lilydale, planting their first vines in 1972.
A true family estate, Mount Mary spans 40 acres and produces just four wines, all estate-grown and bottled: the Quintet, a classically styled Bordeaux blend; Triolet, an elegant white blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle; a refined Pinot Noir; and a Chardonnay that has been mistaken for white Burgundy in blind tastings.
Mount Mary’s wines are known for their purity, restraint, and longevity. The vineyard is farmed with a strong environmental conscience, focusing on soil health, low yields, and minimal intervention in both vineyard and winery.
Since 2011, third-generation winemaker Sam Middleton has carried forward the family legacy with quiet confidence. Today, Mount Mary’s wines are among the most collectible in Australia—highly allocated and deeply expressive of the Yarra Valley’s cool-climate elegance.
